G&L Chili Dogs Turns 100 With $1 Dogs
The Grand Rapids-area chili dog stand hit its centennial with a birthday bash, $1 hot dogs and chili dogs, cake, giveaways and a giant card for customers to sign.
G&L Chili Dogs is celebrating 100 years in business. The celebration featured $1 hot dogs and $1 chili dogs, birthday cake, giveaways and a giant birthday card. Standard pricing is back unless the restaurant extends the anniversary deal.
Grand Rapids has places that outlast trends, and G&L Chili Dogs just hit a big one: 100 years. The local chili dog stand — a fixture of the Wyoming and greater Grand Rapids food scene since about 1925 — marked its centennial with a birthday party for the neighborhood, and yes, the price went back to where it started: $1 hot dogs and $1 chili dogs during the celebration.
There was birthday cake, giveaways, and a giant birthday card customers could sign — the kind of thing you only get when a business has been around long enough to feed a grandparent and a grandkid at the same counter. Making it to a century on a menu built around a hot dog is no small feat. Fast-food chains, delivery apps and thin margins took out plenty of places that opened years after G&L.
